Laurea is one of the biggest universities of applied sciences in Finland. Laurea specializes in service innovations and focuses on regional development of the greater Helsinki Uusimaa region with its seven campuses. There are 10 Bachelor’s Degree Programmes taught in Finnish and 6 in English, 10 Master’s Degree programmes taught in Finnish and 2 in English, as well as studies in open university of applied sciences and a selection of continuing education and personnel training. Laurea has c. 7 800 students, of which 7 000 study in Bachelor and 800 Master degree programmes. Laurea employs c. 550 personnel.

Laurea produces new competences and carries out professionally orientated education, regional development and R&D activities by following the Learning by Developing (LbD), unique learning model. Laurea’s main R&D fields of expertise are: Health and social integrity; Service business activities; Coherent security; and Entrepreneurship and innovations. Strategic areas of expertise with which Laurea aims at top-level activities of an international standard are: Teaching and Research and development work. The design and development of services is a shared RDI process between companies, the public sector and Laurea, in which research, development, innovation and commercialization are implemented as a reflective continuum.

Laurea has a long history of multidisciplinary user-driven approach to regional development. The aim of Laurea is to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, groups and communities in different situations in life. Research is carried out in co-production with both the public and private sectors, regionally, nationally and globally. Laurea is ranked high in evaluations in Finnish higher education institutions and recognized many times in quality of education.
